Stock of the Week: GOOGL Earnings Breakout

On Friday GOOGL broke out on earnings. This setups up the classic earnings breakout-pullback setup.

Blowout earnings provides this setup with a direct catalyst that should get this stock to round number $700. If the stock then breakouts out over $700 it could be off to the races.

Note: I entered this position this morning around $686 and sent an alert out to members.

Swing Trade Stock of the Week: AAPL

Apple is everybody’s stock of the week for good reason. As Apple goes, so does the Nasdaq, and the market in general. It is nearing all time highs. It has made a nice run from the original $120 breakout level.

Did I mention that it also reports earnings after the market close today?

We entered $AAPL in the Trade Report service at $125. Our plan was to ride it into earnings, and if there was enough of a cushion, to do something we rarely do: hold through earnings. The stock currently sits at $133, which gives us an 8 point cushion heading into earnings.

Now even if the stock has a bad earnings reaction and gaps down, we have mitigated our risk. And if we get a positive response we’ll get a huge win. This is the type of risk I’m willing to take going into earnings.

For those who are not in the stock, watch for a break of the $133.60 high.

Swing Trade Stock of the Week: EA

This week’s swing trade stock is Electronics Arts Inc. EA was a first quarter earnings breakout play, and is now pulling back to the 50 dma. This stock has been a great buy on dips, and has that earnings catalyst to keep it trending higher.

I will likely enter on pullback and rather than exit on test of the highs, I will look to stay through a breakout of $60 and higher.

My swing trade stock of the week is El Pollo Loco. LOCO broke out of it’s down trend earlier this year, remounted the 50 day moving average and has now broke out of a range that has developed since mid-January. We will look to enter this week on a pullback.

Swing Trade Stock of the Week: Google

In this week’s Swing Trade Stock of the Week video, we highlight the stock that everybody watches, Google.

The stock is putting in a bottoming formation and has now remounted the 50 day moving average. This is a healthy pattern that signals the “elephants” are building positions. A pullback to the moving average in the $530-535 range gives us a low risk entry, with stop placement under the breakout bar around $520. A target at $560 gives us a 3:1 reward to risk ratio, which is excellent. Even is we hit on this trade only 40 percent of the time, we will make big profits.
